# What is the ring timeout setting?

> Control how long your phone rings before the AI picks up.

## Overview

The ring timeout sets how many seconds your phone rings before an unanswered call is forwarded to your AI receptionist.

## How to change

**1.** Go to **Settings** then **Call Routing**.

**2.** Adjust the **Ring Timeout** slider or enter a value in seconds.

**3.** Click **Save**.

## Recommended settings

* **10 to 15 seconds** — Enough time to grab your phone if it is nearby, without keeping the caller waiting too long.
* **20 to 25 seconds** — If you are often away from your desk but want the chance to answer.
* **5 seconds** — If you prefer the AI to handle almost everything and only want a brief window.

<Note>If the timeout is too long, callers may hang up before reaching anyone. We recommend 15 seconds for most businesses.</Note>
